Malabar Investments is an India-focused boutique investment firm which concentrates on identifying and investing in small to mid-size companies who are leaders in their respective niches.
We believe that the Indian small to midcap space is largely under-researched, and has a limited institutional presence, making it inefficient. By focusing our efforts on primary research in this space, we are able to use the high degree of information and insight asymmetry to our advantage, and discover opportunities that other market participants might not have identified. Many of these exceptional companies, when purchased at reasonable valuations, have the potential to deliver significant long-term returns.
Since founding our firm in 2008, we have continually sought to align our interests with those of our investors, and allocated their capital in outstanding businesses to build long-lasting relationships that create value for all stakeholders.
Our consistent approach to investing reflects our uncompromising commitment to rationality, long-term orientation and excellence, and has served us well through the various market cycles and volatility that we have witnessed since our inception.
OUR APPROACH
Our research and investment team seeks to create value through thoughtful, long-term investments. We invest through both public and private markets to build a concentrated portfolio of companies, all of which possess a sustainable competitive advantage, have demonstrated pricing power, and have a long runway to grow profitably.
A key focus of our research is to ascertain the quality of the management team in order to determine whether they have the drive and capability, along with integrity and corporate governance, to grow the business multifold from its current size.

At Malabar, responsible investment principles are imbedded and integrated into our investment philosophy and the way in which we evaluate businesses. We believe that a focus on environmental, social, and corporate governance (“ESG”) factors contributes to the long-term success of every business, and hence has a positive impact on the value of our investment. Furthermore, we believe that exhibiting leadership in building ESG sustainability into their business practices, reflects the quality and far sightedness of the management team, and hence a responsible approach in this arena indicates a better run business as well as more sustainable economic value creation for investors in the long run. We have formalised our commitment to responsible investment by being one of the first India focused public market funds to become signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (“UN PRI”).
